CHICAGO — The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has dispatched agents to investigate reports of thwarted hijacking attempt aboard a plane at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, an FBI spokeswoman said Friday.

According to reports reaching here, a passenger on a Northwest Airlines flight Friday from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan, caused a brief disturbance at the end of the trip by igniting several firecrackers. The incident resulted in some minor injuries.

PARIS — Three legionaires were killed Friday after their car crashed on a highway in south France, local gendarme sources said.

The accident occurred around 9:15 on Christmas morning near southeast French city Avignon, killing three legionaires on the site and seriously injuring another two.

ANKARA — Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Friday that prospects of stability and security in the Caucasus looked dim unless Armenian occupation over part of Azeri soil ended.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Mammadyarov said, “The biggest problem for Azerbaijan in the region is the Upper Karabakh, which is under Armenian invasion and the situation of the displaced people.”
